John Wayne said it

I've been pondering an idea to quit spending my money on movies out of Hollywood (what few pennies a year Hollywood manages to eek out of me) and spend my money on everything with Jimmy Stewart, along with films from John Wayne, Gene Kelly, Lee Marvin, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, and a number of other actors who were around pre-1970.

In reading about some of these actors, I found this quote from John Wayne. It reminded me of what I love about so many of these guys. Their personal philosophies were often brought to the screen, because at the end of the day, no matter how much you act, it's still you that's on camera.
Asked why he never wrote an autobiography: "Those who like me already know me, and those who don't like me wouldn't want to read about me anyway."
Now, if anyone is looking for ideas for Christmas (or my birthday for that matter), a DVD copy of The Great Escape (my all-time favorite movie...can't see it enough times) would be most excellent.

The Great Escape... I've seen most of it, I really need to see all of it! It was good.

Also good where older movies are concerned (the first three are some of my all-time favorites):

*Arsenic and Old Lace (with Cary Grant)
*Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca
*Singin' in the Rain
*The Guns of Navarrone (awesome WWII movie)
*Robin Hood with Errol Flynn

Blogger Amber declared,

Oh, I almost forgot, there's another really good WWII movie called 'The Eagle Has Landed' that has Michael Caine, Robert Duvall, and Donald Sutherland in it. I got it in the $5.50 movie bin at Walmart, but it was actually a rather good movie.
