Fat people on candy bars

The FDA recently proposed new regulations for cigarette manufacturers that would require them to include photos of "corpses, cancer patients, and diseased lungs and teeth."

First it seemed ludicrous. It's another government attempt to regulate behavior through legislation, similar to requiring states to raise the drinking age to 21 in exchange for transportation dollars.

Then I thought maybe it made sense because it certainly would be more effective than the surgeon general's warning. Maybe it would stop someone from going down the road that I've personally seen lead to death by cancer.

But when I read the story to my wife she brought me back to reality when she commented,
Are they gonna start putting pictures of fat people on candy bars?
I couldn't argue with that.

I think it would really help if they put fat pictures of me on candy bars. If that happen i would follow up with this. http://eldusto.com/?p=14. The truth is fat people will eat candy bars because they want candy bars. Smokers will smoke because they want to smoke. People will find a way to do they things they want to do no matter what pictures are on the products.

Candy bars aren't physically and mentally addictive (only mentally) and as such may not require the same shocking statement the cigarettes do.

In this case, because the tobacco industry has been found guilty (in the courts) of knowingly targeting the American public with a carcinogenic delivery device, they have to fall under regulation.

Candy manufacturers have not yet been found guilty of being the sole reason for being becoming fat and dying of obesity-related causes. Once they do I'd be ok with those pictures of Jabba the Hutt being plastered all over their packaging.

Furthermore, will they require video game manufacturers and tv programs to play a Columbine High School and Paducah, KY memorial before any of their programing reminding viewers that violent media creates violence? In fact evidence shows that media has a stronger negative effect on our culture than either smoking or HIV.(http://www.psychology.iastate.edu/faculty/caa/abstracts/2000-2004/03ABDHJLMW.pdf)

Dustin, LOL!

Bill, what would be your response to alcohol? Which category would you put it under? I'm picturing vodka bottles with pictures of rotting livers, kids with FAS, etc. Eeech... Personally, I don't want to see picture of anything rotting or unpleasant on anything I consume, though I doubt any people do.

I say we put a picture of somebody with a "dirty finger" on singly ply toilet paper, that stuff should be outlawed!! It is both itchy and very risky. On two ply you could put a picture of someone with a clean finger who is happy, like it is their birthday or something, the slogan could be "Every Poo, made by you, and for you, enjoy".
